The Residence in Munich (Residence Museum, Treasury, Cuvilliés Theater) is one of the most important palace ensembles in Europe.
For more than 400 years (1508-1918), the Munich Residenz was the residence and seat of government of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings.
Rooms and art collections, such as the Antiquarium as one of the most magnificent Renaissance halls north of the Alps and the Rich Rooms as pearls of the Rococo, testify to the artistic sense of the House of Wittelsbach.
In the Antiquarium and other rooms of the Munich Residenz, a new technique was used for the first time in the early 1580s, the secret of which was kept for a long time. It reflected the exclusivity at the Munich court:
SCAGLIOLA (Italian for "splinter"),
which is an inlay work in stucco marble.
